I need help selecting coffee beans

Our webshop offers a wide option of filters to narrow down our big coffee selection. We understand that it can be quite overwhelming to sort through the endless options and attributes, so we encourage you to try your luck at a tasting set and find out what you like by taste!

If you like coffees that are especially low in acidity, try our low acid tasting set

We also filter our coffees by four taste profiles, which you can find here:

If you need a customized consultation, feel free to contact us at [email protected] with a with specifics. For example:

  • Price range

  • Bean sort (arabica, robusta)

  • Preferred flavor profile (chocolate, fruity, nutty etc)

  • Preparation method (portafilter, fully automatic etc)

How long does my coffee last?

First of all: coffee beans are generally quite resilient and subject to a very slow aging process. This is because coffee is a dry food product, and where there is no moisture, spoilage only begins very slowly.

As Germany’s largest online marketplace, we want to offer you a wide selection of top quality coffees, always fresh and sourced directly. We therefore promise that coffees and espressos from local specialty roasteries will arrive a few months after roasting. This ensures that the creations can fully develop their unique range of aromas and remain protected until consumption.

Coffees and espressos that we source from international roasters have to travel longer distances and undergo time intensive checks to ensure high quality. We promise that coffees from international brands will still have many months of shelf life left when they arrive at your home.

Good to know: manufacturers usually provide a roast date. However, it is also possible that only the best-before date is stated on the packaging.

How many beans should I use for my cup of coffee?

The ideal amount of coffee varies depending on the brewing method, as each method requires different extraction times and grind sizes. Below, you’ll find an overview of the recommended amounts for the most common brewing methods:

  • Portafilter: For a classic espresso, use approx. 18–20 g of finely ground coffee per double shot.

  • Filter coffee: Around 10–12 g of medium-ground coffee per cup (200 ml) is enough.

  • French Press: Use 10–12 g of coarsely ground coffee per cup.

  • Moka pot: 15–18 g of medium to finely ground coffee is recommended.

Please note: Depending on the coffee variety, roast, and brewing method, it may make sense to adjust the grind size and brewing time slightly. Feel free to try different settings. Even small adjustments can noticeably change the taste. This way, you can gradually find out how to make your favorite coffee just the way you like it.

How do I best store my coffee?

It is best to store your coffee in an airtight, opaque (non-transparent) container, ideally made of ceramic or stainless steel. Keep it in a cool, dry place away from heat sources, moisture, and direct sunlight. The refrigerator or freezer is not suitable for storage, as coffee can absorb moisture and odors there.

Grind the coffee only right before brewing. This helps preserve the aroma and taste as well as possible. Pre-ground coffee loses its freshness more quickly than whole beans.

What means organic/Demeter/fairtrade coffee?

Organic

Organic stands for coffee from certified organic farming. This means:

  • The coffee plants are grown without chemical pesticides or synthetic fertilizers.

  • The soil is treated carefully to help preserve its natural fertility.

  • Organic coffee is often labeled with the EU organic seal or other organic certifications.

Demeter

Demeter is the highest level of organic certification and stands for biodynamic farming. This means:

  • The cultivation follows not only organic guidelines, but also the principles of biodynamics.

  • Special methods are used to support the ecological balance (e.g. natural cycles, the use of preparations).

  • Demeter certification is particularly strict and is checked regularly.

Fairtrade

Fairtrade is a label for fair trade. This means:

  • Coffee farmers receive a minimum price above the world market price.

  • In addition, there is a Fairtrade premium for community projects (e.g. schools).

  • Working conditions are monitored according to social and ethical standards.

Important to note:
Many coffees can also carry several of these labels at the same time, for example Organic and Fairtrade. This allows you to choose according to your personal values.

I cannot select a grind option for my coffee

Unfortunately, we are not yet able to grind all coffee beans for you.

Reasons for this include, for example:

  • Different product certifications, such as Demeter, and the conditions associated with them

  • Roasters often print the best-before date at the top of the packaging, which we have to cut off in order to open the package. However, food products must be shipped with a best-before date visible.

So if you cannot select a grind size for your desired product, we do not offer the selected product in ground form.
